The Murphys Witch Walk was specifically created in 2016 as an annual seasonal festival event designed to drive tourism to Murphys to support the business community. At first, in 2016, it was a costumed Friday GNO (girls night out) for a few hours where the ladies and families adorned pointy hats, went shopping, wine tasting and dining as a means of providing a boost to the local economy.
By 2017, the Murphys Witch Walk expanded into the daytime hours and in 2018, it was an all day affair with a costume contest and live entertainment.
The Murphys Witch Walk Costumed Halloween Festival was already quickly growing to become the #1 retail shopping day of the year when just prior to the October 2019 festival, personnel changes almost ensured the event would see its demise. Thanks to some quick thinking and fancy footwork from local business people, approximately 10 weeks out from the festival date, the Murphys Witch Walk was rescued and the 4th Annual Murphys Witch Walk drew, conservatively, some 2,000 costumed guests to Murphys.
Due to Covid, there was no Murphys Witch Walk in 2020, but by 2021, people were ready to party after being cooped up for almost two years. The 5th Annual Murphys Witch Walk in 2021 drew an estimated 3,000 to 4,000 costumed revelers to town over the course of the day.
On October 15, 2022, the 6th Annual Murphys Witch Walk again exceeded all expectations for attendance drawing to Murphys a staggering 6,000 to 7,500 costumed attendees in the most stunning display of beauty, integrity, dignity and respect this town has ever seen, resulting in the Murphys Witch Walk fully establishing itself as the most successful, lucrative and fun festival event in Murphys' history. Law enforcement reported no incidents of any kind during the course of the 2022 day-long festival.
Since 2019, local Murphys Main Street businesses have come to expect the Murphys Witch Walk will, not just, again be the #1 retail sales day of the year, but the most fun day you will have in Murphys, bar none. And for that, we say to you, our supporters, thank you from the bottom of our little black witchy hearts.
We, the producers, would like to take a moment to thank all of you who have visited Murphys for the Murphys Witch Walk and for adhering to our Code of Honor, which we published for the first time right before the 5th Annual Murphys Witch Walk in 2021.
